STK Certificate

One of our students, Miguel Gallego, has just earned earned the STK Certificate.

STK (named Systems Tool Kit in the latest version, Satellite Tool Kit in earlier versions) is a powerful simulation software from Analytical Graphics, Inc. Here at the ETSI Telecomunicación we use it mainly for scenarios involving spacecraft mission design and communication link analysis but it has also many powerful features in the areas of aircraft, radar and UAV simulations. Systems Tool Kit is a very effective and visual tool to replicate the concepts learned during our degree. It can be also integrated with Matlab to do a post-processing analysis of the scenarios.



The STK Certificate is an online test supervised by AGI that evaluates your knowledge of the STK suite and over several additional analysis modules. It is a renowned certification in the space industry, it is also offered free of charge to our students.

We thank Analytical Graphics, Inc. for the academic licences and for the opportunity to undertake the STK Certification test.

TelCUBE at E-USOC

This November, the members of TelCUBE Project visited E-USOC (Spanish User Support and Operations Center) as part of the activities of the XI Week of Science. This center is specialized in research and development of space technology and microgravity science, and it is part of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Its main activity is to supervise different kinds of experiments carried out in the ISS (Columbus Laboratory). Particularly, they watch over experiments dealing with Fluid Dynamics (FS Laboratory). E-USOC is also in charge of the access to some Low Gravity Platforms supervised by ESA.

During the visit, the team could observe the control room, from where communications between Earth and ISS are held, and even watch a real communication between E-USOC and other control center. E-USOC's facilities provide the infrastructure necessary to prepare experiments and operate them remotely. One of these services is the Clean Room, a special room isolated from any kind of pollution or distortion from the exterior, and it is used to test experiments before they are launched. The team visited this room, although it was observed from the ou

tside, due to the severe security measures.

Moreover, the team was shown one of the scientific experiments that are probe to be launched in a short period of time, dealing with fluid dynamics. This experiment tried to show that fluid's surface vibrations in microgravity are very different from the ones seen under normal gravity conditions (Faraday's Waves).

We are really glad to have been there and we hope to enjoy more visits like that in future.

Interview to members of TelCUBE Project

Last weeks, the library of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSIT-UPM) has organized different events to commemorate the ABET accreditation obtained by the Ingeniero de Telecommunication Program with a Master of Science (MS) level.

In this context, some interviews have been made with teachers and students to share different reflexions about their experiences working or studying in other countries. Miguel Gallego and Javier Hernando, both members of TelCUBE Project, have been interviewed about the FALCON proposal and their travel to Tokyo last march to attend the 2^nd Nano-satellite Symposium.

Hello everybody!

We start a new stage in this adventure with TelCUBE Project.

After coming back from Tokyo, we have kept on working on new interesting ideas we will be telling you soon.

Destino: Tokyo - Presentación en SATELEC 2011

Con motivo de la XXXVII edición del Foro de Empleo y Tecnología de la ETSIT-UPM organizada por SATELEC, va a tener lugar una conferencia sobre la participación de los estudiantes de telecomunicación en la ingeniería espacial.

Bajo el título “Destino: Tokyo. Oportunidades de empleo en la industria espacial”, Ramón Martínez (profesor de la ETSIT) y Javier Hernando (estudiante de la ETSIT) realizarán una breve introducción al mundo de los pequeños satélites y detallarán las distintas formas en las que se puede participar en el proyecto TelCUBE, incluyendo de un modo especial este año la participación en el Mission Idea Contest de AxelSpace.

Os invitamos a todos a asistir a esta conferencia en la que podréis comprobar de primera mano que, para dar los primeros pasos en este mundo sólo es necesario tener interés y muchas ganas de descubrir cosas nuevas.
